About Sally Grillo and Nu~Yoga

From the Norwalk Hour, October 19th, 2004:

butterfly Sally Grillo, owner/instructor, discovered her passion for keeping fit after having children in the mid-80's.

"I liked working out, but especially in a group setting. I made friends, laughed, and had lots of fun." As time went on, Grillo knew she wanted to teach group fitness as a career. She began attending conferences and workshops to enhance her education and ability to teach.

In 1998, she began teaching group fitness classes at the Norwalk YMCA as well as at several studios. Then in 2001, Grillo attended a Pilates training program at Physical Mind Institute and went on to start the Pilates program at the Norwalk Y. That same year, Grillo met Todd Norian, who would become her yoga teacher and who introduced her to the Anusara style of yoga. Anusara was developed by world renowned yoga instructor, John Friend. It combines the celebration of the heart, universal principles of alignment, and a balanced energetic action in the posture to achieve optimal alignment. Grillo took several workshops with Norian, then decided to enroll in Teacher Training. It was a life-changing experience as it ultimately led to the opening of Nu~Yoga, where Sally teaches on a daily basis. "It is an honor to teach at Nu~Yoga and it's a deep blessing to have a space where people can come in to take care of themselves, but also feel at home."

The studio is candlelit, the ambience serene and charming, complete with brick wall and tin ceiling.

Nu~Yoga offers a full schedule of both Hatha Yoga and Pilates classes. Grillo teaches morning fitness classes as well and Kripalu-certified teacher Judith Lambertson also leads classes. Grillo and Lambertson both attended the Anusara Teacher Training.

Nu~Yoga opened in January 2004 at 32-34 Main street, Grillo is a lifelong resident.

New Classes and workshops are forming in Children's Yoga, Pilates for Golfers, and Pilates for Rowers. To enroll or for further information call Sally at (203) 854-6744.
